To try and cut down each type of tree, you must have a certain overall level.

To cut:

Normal tree >> Level 1
Oak tree >> Level 3
Willow tree >> Level 6
Maple tree >> Level 8
Hollow tree >> Level 9
Yew tree >> Level 10
Spirit tree >> Level 16
Magic tree >> Level 20
Ganonomet tree >> Level 30

Sorry forgot to add, the better the axe level, the easier it will be to cut them.

Theres now also the Banana tree for normal members and GM.

Level 2's+ can try to cut it.
